ONE Hampshire council has said that its buildings meet safety standards despite using similar cladding material as London's Grenfell Tower.

Eastleigh Borough Council have said that various buildings, including the council's own offices, use aluminium composite panels as part of their cladding.

The panels are made up of aluminium composite material, which is the same type that caught fire in London earlier this month, killing 80 people.

It is unknown whether the cladding is of the exact same layout as the London building, but the material within the cladding is the same.

A statement from the council said: "We can confirm that some of the cladding on these buildings, which include our main council offices, Eastleigh House and Wessex House, is made of aluminium composite panels.

"However, the cladding panels we use not only comply with building regulations but are subject to stringent reviews and discussions with fire safety engineers, surveyors, the Hampshire fire and rescue services fire officer and building control."

As previously reported by the Daily Echo, Southampton City Council and Hampshire County Council stated that no school buildings that had been checked had used the ACM cladding that has become a major concern in fire safety standards.

The statement from EBC added: "We will work with partners and use our communication channels to ensure that all property owners and landlords within the borough are aware of required fire regulations."
