SWAY Carnival brought a touch of Hollywood to Hampshire with a movie themed carnival week and procession.
Pam Wade carnival chairwoman said: “It was a truly amazing carnival this year, breaking all records. Well done Sway. We’ve had a bumper week of events, with the procession as the highlight. The weather helped a lot.”
She added: “The streets were packed with people and we made over £700 from the street collection.
“ It seemed like either the whole village was either in the carnival or watching it.”
The winners of the carnival parade Mollie Mold Trophy were Little Flyers Play School who chose Finding Nemo and were dressed as characters from the movie.
The winner of the small group category were the Benham family who chose Bugsy Malone as their theme and the Kazim family won the senior and family category dressed as the Fantastic Four.
Other movies on parade were Shrek, Mary Poppins, 101 Dalmations, Minions, Emoji. Titanic, Ghostbusters and Oliver.
The parade which walked from the Village Hall to Jubilee Field, had over a dozen group entrants as well as carnival favourites The Dolphin Marching Band from Poole and MUSC, a ukelele band from New Milton.
Carnival prince Mason Friend and princess Emma-Violet Merchant, both year 6 pupils of St Luke’s School proudly led the procession and opened the carnival fete the next day.
Funds from the carnival go to local Sway community groups.
