IT’S the inner city pub that brews its own beer.

The London Road Brew House, in Bedford Place, Southampton, opened in January and is managed by 30-year-old Jennifer Ford.

She said: “We are delighted with Southampton’s warm welcome for us, we’ve had a lot of fun so far and that we are very proud of our fantastic reviews.Since we opened, our popularity has soared with people of all ages including students and working people.

“We are obsessive about our beer and are confident we can find a beer for everyone to enjoy, whether it’s a Hoptopus or a Death’s Head stout.”

Lee Farling, the pub’s master brewer, added: “We brew a variety of beers to suit all tastes that include simple, easy-drinking IPA to some more weird and wonderful concoctions that are a more acquired taste.”

Lee’s Black Panther Imperial Stout won overall best beer at the recent Camra Southampton beer festival.

Pizza “with attitude” is also a key component of the pub’s offering.

Freshly baked, the pizza range includes Chuck Norris (featuring a selection of meats), Cool Runnings (topped with jerk chicken, barbecue sauce and red peppers) and Original Gangster (a classic pizza with two types of mozzarella, pesto and fresh basil).

The pub also hosts a weekly quiz night, poker nights and Sky Sports nights.

The interior has a number of quirky features including a view of the brewery operation.

“Looking to the future, we are now starting to expand our production so some of the favourites will be appearing in bottles and cans elsewhere and continue to create a good impression from the start.” Jen added.

The Brew House is part of the City Pub Company, which own more than 30 sites across the country. It is open noon to midnight Sunday to Thursday and midday to 1am, Friday and Saturday.

Punters' point of view:

Tom Brenton, 21, a student from Southampton, said: “The pub is an excellent place to chill after lectures or in the evening. I particularly come here to watch the football with my mates, it’s a great place with atmosphere.”

Julie Summers, 45, a retail supervisor from Southampton, said: “It’s very welcoming every time we visit. It’s like a hidden Inner city gem that is a fantastic place to visit in the evening for a pizza and a pint.”
