HUNDREDS of children, parents and members of the community showed their support at a festival of learning.

The event at Blackfield Primary School was billed as chance for pupils to show off their work and – with a sponsored ‘singathon’ thrown in for good measure – they did just that.

Classes and year groups took turns to raise the roof with their renditions of pop classics, with the most successful group rewarded with an end of term bowling trip.

But the day wasn’t just about having fun, it was a chance for youngsters to raise money after vandals callously smashed equipment in the school playground.

As previously reported, the yobs struck in the last half term holiday, causing £20,000 worth of damage and forcing teachers to replace toys, equipment and a reading bus that was in the process of being converted.

Now a generous company has also stepped in to lend a hand.

Aeropark Developments Ltd, who are based in Freemantle, have promised to do some of the groundworks needed to get the bus ready and usable.

HR manager and mum Emily Horton, whose son Liam is a Blackfield pupil, said the it was part of the firm’s corporate responsibility scheme, which will see them help more local organisations in the future.

She said: “There was clearly a need there to help, and what the vandals did put them back severely in terms of their fundraising.”
