IT WAS a day full of challenges to encourage Southampton students to take up maths and science subjects.
Dozens of schoolchildren gathered for Southampton’s first ever Robotic Games at Leonardo, an aerospace engineering company based at Millbrook Industrial Estate. The games were designed to provide a simple, exciting introduction to Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) subjects.
The children had the chance to create customised robots, whose capabilities were then put to the test in activities including robot football, ‘tug of war’ sumo wrestling and a robot assault course.
Participants were drawn from Chamberlayne School, Cantell School and St George’s Schools.
The tug of war, sumo and football were all won by Chamberlayne School and the assault course was won by St George’s School.
