A WANTED man who jumped in a river to escape from police is still on the run more than two days later.

As previously reported by the Daily Echo, officers scoured the River Test after the man jumped from Redbridge Causeway as officers closed in on Saturday afternoon.

Hampshire Police confirmed this afternoon that the man was still at large but refused to give any details about him.

When asked what he was wanted in connection with, a force spokesman referred to “outstanding offences” but declined to give details due to “operational reasons”.

Officers were seen searching the area surrounding Redbridge railway station on Saturday, as a police helicopter circled overhead for almost an hour.

British Transport Police also took part in the operation.

A woman living near the station said: “When we came back from town we heard the police helicopter overhead. We also saw a load of coppers in the street and a few meat wagons.

“They were obviously looking for someone.”

A man living a few doors down the street added: “You want to know what’s going on in your own road.”
