A HAMPSHIRE child who was rushed to hospital after falling from an upstairs window has had a seemingly miraculous escape.

The child suffered head injuries, at first believed to be serious, but was discharged from hospital the following day.

Emergency services were called to a property at Arakan Crescent, Marchwood, near Totton, on Saturday morning after receiving reports that a three-year-old boy had fallen 12 feet from a second floor window.

Ambulance services and the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance rushed to the scene at around 11.20am.

An ambulance services spokesman, said: “He had sustained a serious head injury and was taken by road to University Hospital Southampton with the air ambulance crew travelling with him.

At one stage eight police cars were also seen at the scene. The police yesterday said the incident was not being treated as suspicious and that the boy’s injuries were minor.

Pluto Ellis, 50, an engineer who lives nearby, said: “ I heard the air ambulance and lots of emergency vehicles’ sirens and I walked to Arakan Crescent.

“People came out to see what was going on. I understand a child was taken away in the ambulance. I hope he is ok.”

The Daily Echo spoke briefly to the mother of the boy, who has not been named.

She was too upset to talk as she was going to her son’s bedside in hospital.
