DOZENS of residents gathered at a Southampton park for the opening of a new play area.
The rain did not deter residents and city bosses on Saturday at Mayfield Park, Weston, for the official opening by the city council.
The play space features a new play equipment including swings and a climbing structure in the shape of a Spitfire.
Cllr Jacqui Rayment, who was at the opening ceremony, said the new play area has been well received. She added: “We are working our way across the city investing in young people’s play. There were people of all ages experiencing the new equipment.”
Cllr Satvir Kaur, cabinet member for communities, culture and leisure, said: “All kids areas are really great for local communities and families and to get kids out and fit. I really hope that local communities enjoy them but also look after them.”
I am looking forward to the opening of the play area at Southampton Common.”
The new play space is expected to open in the next few weeks.
The new play space was funded by Southampton City Council and is part of a major investment aimed at revamping children’s play areas across the city.
