AN INVESTIGATION has been launched after a moped driver and passenger attacked a car near the M27.

A woman was driving home in a red Chrysler PT Cruiser when she was followed by a white moped to traffic lights at the top of Charles Watts Way at the roundabout which leads to junction seven of the motorway.

The 37-year-old woman said the moped was driving erratically, and when she stopped at the light the rider and pillion passenger dropped the moped and attacked the driver's side front and rear side of the Chrysler.

They caused serious damage and the woman drove onto the motorway without being hurt.

The incident happened at about 6pm on Sunday, July 16, and the moped driver and passenger were described as being white men, aged in their early 20s, wearing hooded tops and crash helmets.

A 21-year-old man from Southampton has been arrested on suspicion of offences including criminal damage and has been released from custody, but remains under investigation.

A Hampshire Constabulary spokesman said: "Anyone who saw what happened should call PC Gemma Boyle at Southampton Central Police Station on 101 quoting 44170273570.

"Alternatively people can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, where information can be left anonymously."
