POLICE have rushed to reports of armed robbery involving a gun at a convenience store.

A man was reportedly seen carrying what has been described as a small black gun while threatening a member of staff at around 1.30pm on Tuesday.

The incident took place at the Co-op in St Vigor Way, Colden Common.

As well as officers, the police helicopter was circling above.

Hampshire Constabulary is urging anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information to call 101 immediately.

Local residents say they saw armed police and sniffer dogs in the area after the incident.

Joe Charrett, 18, from Colden Common said he saw the police helicopter circling in the area after the incident.

He said: "I was at work when I saw the police helicopter going over, I saw a dog unit going past and lots of police. I was shocked about it, but the Co-op has been done over in the past but it has never been in the day time.

Sam Nelson, 17, from Colden Common said he saw a huge police presence at the store just after the incident happened.

He said: "I came here five minutes after it happened and I saw the police cars and the sniffer dogs, saw the helicopter and the dog unit and knew something was going on."

Other residents have taken to social media to talk about the incident.

A post on Facebook read: "Please avoid the Co-op - someone just went in with a gun and demanded money! Police aware and on scene."

Staff at the Co-Op did not want to talk to the Daily Echo, when asked about the incident.
