WINCHESTER civic chiefs are poised to approve a £100,000 revamp of an overgrown BMX track at Abbotts Barton.

The scheme is in mitigation for the loss of open space after 14 new council houses have been built on Hillier Way.

It will bring previously inaccessible scrubland into the public realm.

The local Scout Association will also be able to build a new hut for community use. The city council is also minded to lease some of the land to the Scouts.

Cllrs Guy Ashton, portfolio holder for finance and Steve Miller, portfolio holder for estates, are expected to sign off the scheme in the near future.
