POLICE have launched a hunt for bikers putting people in danger in a Southampton park.

Two off-road motorbikes and a quad bike were being ridden antisocially in Green Park, Millbrook, causing damage to the park between 6pm and 8.07pm on Tuesday.

The bikers fled using local roads and it is thought they are not likely to have any insurance.

The bikes have been described as:

A red and white scrambler, with the rider wearing a black helmet and distinctive yellow and black motorcross-type clothing which had red writing;

A black motorbike with the rider wearing dark clothing and white trainers;

A white quad bike - rider wearing white or grey tracksuit.

PC Simon Peacock said: "These bikes cause damage to parks and are a danger to members of the public, as well as the riders themselves.

"The red and white bike looks clean and is likely stored in a house or out building. Someone will have seen this bike or know who uses it."

The incident comes just months after Hampshire Constabulary relaunched a campaign to curb nuisance motorcyclists in the city.

Operation Torque was expected to reduce the number of antisocial biking incident and illegal riding in Redbridge, Millbrook, Coxford, Lordshill, Shirley, and Freemantle.

The scheme will also allow police to prosecute those who continually offend under the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014 and the Road Traffic Act.

In May, a similar incident involving two motorcyclists terrorising families near Mansel Park, off Kendal Avenue.

At the time councillor Keith Morrell, who represent Coxford ward, said "illegal motorcycling menaces" were something the council had been working to combat with the police for years.

He added: "It is dangerous to all concerned - residents and the riders themselves. They are young lads that do not take the proper precautions for their own safely of for the safety of pedestrians.

"There was a recent death of a lad in Lordswood involving a motorcycle... This is a tragic example of how motorcycles can kill not just the person riding but someone that happens to get in the way.

"I don't think these young men appreciate how they are not immortal. It can have devastating consequences and is a nuisance to residents."
