Emergency crews had to race to a Hampshire river bank to help free a man stuck in the mud in the middle of the night.

The man had to be taken to hospital after the incident which took place in Fareham at 1am this morning.

Fire crews from Fareham, Gosport and Cosham were joined by police in aiding the man on the bank near the Hoeford Inn in Gosport Road.

Police helped the man, who was found on his knees, away from any danger in the area before he was then taken to hospital.
