Mark Fincham was involved in a two-machine accident during a race in the Pirelli National Superstock 1000 at Thruxton Circuit, taking place as part of the weekend’s round of the MCE British Superbike Championship, and sustained serious injuries.

The race was stopped immediately and the riders involved, Mr Fincham and Jim Walker, were treated trackside by medical staff at the Andover site before being transferred to the circuit’s medical centre.

However, Mr Fincham, 37, died as result of his injuries while undergoing treatment.

A statement from the event organisers read: “MotorSport Vision Racing and the staff at Thruxton circuit, are now working with the coroner, police and the Motor Cycle Circuit Racing Control Board in order to investigate the full circumstances of this tragic accident.”

Mr Walker was reported as unhurt as a result of the accident.

Hampshire Constabulary is appealing for witnesses or anyone who may have footage of the fatal collision.

A police statement says: "Officers attended the scene to establish the exact circumstances of the death. It is not being treated as suspicious at this time.

"We would like anyone who attended the race and who has footage of the collision to contact us by calling 101, quoting Operation Pond."

Mr Fincham, known as 'Finchy' was riding for the True Heroes Racing team which uses competitive motorsport as a way of helping injured UK Armed Forces personnel.

The 37-year-old was an ex-marine who, before joining the forces, had part of his left leg amuptated after he was hit by a car while riding a motorbike.

The team modifies motorcycles so their team made up of injured ex-servicemen can ride.

Mr Fincham began racing competitively in 2012 and finished in the top three of the competitions he entered in his first three seasons.
