FLYTIPPERS have dumped a pile of rubbish next to a footpath in a New Forest town.

What looked like old drainpipes and building materials were left in scrub on the path running between Salisbury Road and Stephenson Road in Totton.

It’s the latest in a series of incidents which has seen Hampshire roads strewn with waste – with one residential street in Southampton targeted more than 75 times in the last six months.

Damaged fridges and freezers, a for-sale sign and mouldy mattresses were also among the heap of rubbish left by flytippers in a layby on Drummond Drive in St Denys, while the contents of a living room were dumped at Deerleap in Colbury on August 10.

Totton central ward councillor Mahmoud Kangarani said flytipping was “unacceptable” and said he would broach the subject with the council on Monday.

He added: “It’s school holidays, children are playing outside and they can be hurt. If we can find the culprits then we can prosecute. They can’t just dump their rubbish on public property.”
