A SOUTHAMPTON mother has voiced her anger with the city council after her ceiling was left with exposed wiring dripping with water and covered with mould.

A Southampton City Council worker had attempted to mend the ceiling at Sarah Price’s Lordshill home late last year after her shared shed roof collected surface water which had seeped into the house.

However, the 38-year-old said heavy rain in recent weeks had left the ceiling smothered in mould and wires in the ceiling were dripping with water.

Sarah, a full-time carer for her wife Kate, 34, who has rare brain condition, and mother to a three-year-old daughter, said she couldn’t believe the state the ceiling was left in.

“I didn’t want to open the door, that’s how bad it had got. The damage is there for all to see, and it’s affecting the health of my partner and I,” she said.

Now, after the council made a second visit, she said has described its plans to fix the roof as “just not good enough”.

“It was so dangerous, and this is after the council have already tried to fix it once. They came soon after I reported it late last year, and the one person who came spent about thirty minutes here.

“I looked afterwards and they’d put a patch on the hole on the roof, but you couldn’t really see the difference inside.

“Now it’s dripping with mould and the wires are so dangerous.”

She has been given a date of August 29 for the ceiling to be replaced after council workers made a second visit to make running repairs.

She said: “They could have done that when I first told them about it.”

“It’s not good enough what they’re planning to do and it’s causing us aggravation and stress that we don’t want.”

A spokesperson for Southampton City Council said: “Our housing repairs team have visited a property in Sinclair Road following reports from the tenant of damage to an external shed

roof.

“We have made safe and scheduled further repair work to take place within the next 25 working days in line with our policy on non-urgent housing repairs.”
