THOUSANDS of revellers were in high spirits as Boomtown Fair came to an end last night.

Up to 60,000 people descended on Winchester and villages nearby as the festival rocked the Matterley Bowl.

The main stage line-up consisted of ska and party bands from around the world including two-tone band The Specials, hip-hop pioneers Cypress Hill, London rapper M.I.A, Arrested Development, reggae superstar Toots and the Maytals and 90s legends Chaka Demus & Pliers with the other live music stages offering cabaret, gypsy, folk, reggae, dub and country and western.

Revellers also enjoyed over 100 activities and workshops, from crafts and skills such as blacksmithing, copper beating and chainsaw carving.

Festival organisers said the weekend went smoothly despite the delays on Thursday and apologised to those who experienced the lengthy queue to get into the festival.

They added: β€œIt’s a fantastic festival that focuses on the attention to detail with the aim of providing all who come to the event a unique festival experience unlike any other.”

There was also an increased police presence following several deaths at the event in recent years.
