A STOLEN dog who was found dumped and seriously unwell in a Hampshire charity’s car park has been miraculously reunited with her original owners after two years.

Seven-year-old American Bulldog, Kami, was found covered in tumours and suffering from painful ear infections when she was abandoned outside the Stubbington Ark, Fareham, in June.

Yet when staff picked her up, they knew little about the true extent of the poorly pooch’s ordeal.

Using a microchip, they attempted to track the pet’s owner and were left shocked to discover that she was registered to a home in Brighton.

Using the details on the chip, staff reached out to the family in a desperate attempt to rehome her.

But the response they received would leave them stunned.

“I got a frantic phone call and a frantic e-mail from the family saying that it was their dog and it had been stolen,” said the Ark’s Animal Centre Manager, Stephanie Cziczo.

“They couldn’t believe it.”

While Stephanie liaised with the family, staff at the charity worked tirelessly to treat Kami.

The “super affectionate” dog was discovered in the Ark’s car park, with mammary tumours all over her chest.

She also had “disgusting” ears, which were filled with “gunk” and severely infected.

“It was touch and go when she first came to us,” said Stephanie.

“Mammary tumours can be either benign or malignant, but luckily hers were benign.

“Her ears were disgusting and oozing with black gunk and infections.

“It was really horrible.”

The charity believe that after Kami was stolen she was used to breed a litter.

Stephanie says that Kami was most likely cared for during the two years she was missing, but because she had become so unwell the owners had decided to abandon her.

Despite the best efforts of the charity’s vet, Caroline Loach, Kami was left partially deaf in one ear.

However the charity was successful in removing the mammary tumours and saving part of her hearing.

After making a full recovery from her ordeal, Kami was finally returned to her original family on Tuesday.

Stephanie said: “She was always really affectionate dog anyway but when she saw them she was bouncing all over the place.

“You could tell that she recognised them.”

Stephanie, who has worked in animal care for ten years, added: “I’ve never seen anything like this before.

“We’ve had pets that have been missing for a month but never two years.”
