POLICE are on the hunt for a 'window cleaner' who stole hundreds of pounds of cash from an elderly woman's home.

A probe has been launched into the incident, which took place at a house in Heathfield Close, Sholing, on Saturday, August 5.

Police say the man cleaned the windows of the house, belonging to an 80-year-old woman, before leaving.

He returned the following day claiming he needed to clean the inside of the windows and was invited into the house, where he stole a metal cash box containing £260.

Officers are now on the lookout for the man, who is described as white and aged between 30 and 35 years old.

Police say he is between 5ft7ins and 5ft8ins tall, with short black curly hair and a slim build.

He is said to have a small tattoo on the left side of his neck.

At the time of the incident he was wearing dark blue jeans and a fawn coloured jacket, and was carrying a Tesco bag for life which contained a bucket, some rags, and a window cleaning squeegee blade.

Police staff investigator, Peter Burns, said: "We would like to identify the person in this E-fit, but would also like to hear from anyone who may have seen a man matching this description in the area.

"We have received reports that a man matching this description has also been operating in the Butts Road area of Sholing, and the Pepys Avenue area of Thornhill.
