TWO people are fighting for their lives after a crash on a Hampshire road.

Emergency services rushed to Rownhams Lane, North Baddesley after a Jaguar and BMW were involved in the crash yesterday.

It happened close to Winstone Crescent, where residents rushed outside and with some trying to help the casualties in the vehicles following the crash at around 2.40pm on Thursday.

People in area described hearing a "huge bang",one local resident who did not want to be named said: "I only live up at the back of the bungalows and I heard a horrendous bang.

"My husband came out straight away. He said that the two fronts of the cars were badly damaged.

"He said he has never seen anything like it, they had been pushed right in. He then started directing traffic to come round."

Another resident from Hoe Lane, said: "It was one hell of a bang, my neighbour whose a nurse came out and helped the injured people."

Police cars, ambulances and fire engines were at the scene.

The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance also landed in a nearby field.

Police cordoned off the scene as the patients were being treated.

A spokesperson for South Central Ambulance said: "We got the call at 2.42pm about a two vehicle road traffic collision.

We sent the critical care car from the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance, a ambulance crew, a rapid response vehicle and the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance.

They were on the scene assessing and treating two patients, both of which sustained potentially life threatening injuries.

"They were assessed and treated by all the crew and were both taken to Southampton General Hospital by land ambulance."

Police have now launched a witness appeal as part of their investigation.

A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary said: "We were called at 2.42pm to reports of a two vehicle collision on Rownhams Lane, North Baddesley.

"A BMW and a Jaguar were involved. The road was blocked as a result of the collision.

"The driver of the BMW has been taken to hospital with serious injuries."
