A HAMPSHIRE council has launched a new handy-person service to help with a range of small jobs around the home for their residents.

Eastleigh Borough Council will be one of the first in the county to launch the scheme.

It says the new service, which is safe and reliable, is ideal for people who struggle to get odd jobs and repairs done around the house.

Under the plans, the council has hired local contractor Richard Bath who will charge £9.60 per hour for over 60s and those on means-tested benefits which include Guaranteed Pension Credit, Income based Employment Support Allowance, Council Tax Support (not single person discount) and Housing Benefit.

He will charge higher rates for other clients depending on the job required.

Richard will help with small repairs and jobs around the home including assembling flat-pack furniture.

He will also help with fitting door chains and locks, replacing light bulbs and batteries, minor decoration repairs, fitting door bells, repairing toilet cisterns, putting up shelves, unblocking sinks and changing tap washers.

Cllr Tonia Craig, Eastleigh council cabinet lead for health and community safety, said the service will help ease worry among some residents.

She added: “This new scheme will provide the opportunity for local people to get those little jobs that can often cause worry and stress especially if people don’t know where to get help.

“So if you need small jobs done in your house give Eastleigh Handyperson service a call.”
