NINE new biogas buses have joined the Arriva fleet in Runcorn following a £2 million investment.

The 43-seater carbon-neutral models are powered by renewable gas from waste products, such as household food and animal waste, and comply with the latest European emission standards.

Phil Stone, regional managing director for Arriva North West and Wales, said: “We are very proud to be adding a total of 72 eco-friendly models to our fleet this year, and hope their introduction will help to dramatically reduce our carbon footprint as part of Arriva’s wider clean air mission.

“Every aspect of these new buses has been designed to be more environmentally friendly, from the interior e-leather seats to the reduced carbon emissions.”

Passengers can also use free onboard Wi-Fi and USB power points.

The new biogas buses will run on service 82A travelling from Runcorn and Widnes to Liverpool John Lennon Airport and the city centre.
