SALISBURY favourite Robbie Matthews has buried the proverbial hatchet with boss Steve Claridge and rejoined the Wiltshire club.

The 35-year-old is one of two new arrivals for the injury-hit Whites, along with teenage loanee Scott Twine from League Two outfit Swindon Town.

Nicknamed ‘Mooncat’, Matthews hit back after Claridge had expressed his disappointment over the circumstances of his departure to Winchester City last September.

But clearly there are no hard feelings and striker/defender Matthews will be dual-signed for Salisbury and Sydenhams Wessex outfit Bemerton Heath Harlequins where he is player-coach.

“Everyone knows Robbie and what he can do,” said Claridge. “We just needed some cover and an option up front and we thank him for coming back as and when needed.”

Born-and-bred in Amesbury, the 6ft 2in Matthews played for the old Salisbury City, Bemerton Heath and Eastleigh in his early years.

Then, after a successful return to Salisbury City, he moved on to Crawley, Kidderminster, Newport County, Forest Green Rovers, Gosport Borough, Hayes & Yeading and Dorchester Town.

While Matthews is nearing the end of his playing career, young Twine is just starting out.

The 18-year-old signed a full professional contract for Swindon in the spring, having scored 30 goals for the under-18s last season.

He made his first-team debut as a substitute against Charlton Athletic on the final day of last season.

"Scott is coming on an initial one-month loan so we can have a good look at him,” said Claridge.

“He is highly thought of at Swindon, who tell me he has a good attitude, and comes with a reputation as a goal scorer. Hopefully it will be a good move for both parties."

Twine is expected to join the Whites for training tomorrow night and be part of the squad for Saturday's Evo-Stik South West game at Shortwood United.
