A WOMAN was left “feeling like a prisoner in her own home” after continually being pestered by an ex-boyfriend.

Colin Day pleaded guilty to breaching a restraining order against Rachel Ravencroft for the ninth time since August 2016, despite already serving time behind bars for the offence.

Day, 26, also admitted to throwing a brick into the Premier shop in Whitts Hill and showering the shop owner with coloured spray.

The court heard that Day initially was found outside Ms Ravencroft’s home demanding to see his child on June 28.

Two weeks later, Ms Ravencroft was then contacted by a friend who said Day was at their house looking for a place to stay.

Prosecuting, Timothy Akers read a victim statement from Ms Ravencroft which said: “I feel like a prisoner in my own home. I am constantly looking over my shoulder in case I see him.

“I am also concerned for my safety. I am not scared by his behaviour but he will never leave me alone.

“I can only relax when he is in prison.”

The court heard that following the phone calls between Day and Ms Ravencroft in an unrelated incident on July 14, the defendant threw a brick into the Premier store.

Mr Akers told the court Day caused criminal damage at approximately 5.45pm before returning later and spraying a coloured substance into owner Sarju Sonchhatla.

Mitigating, Susan Ridge said Day had struggled to come to terms with the end of the relationship with Ms Ravencroft last year.

However, she said Day’s offending was more “persistent in nature” and not threatening.

Ms Ridge added: “He now accepts the relationship is over.”

In sentencing, Judge Christopher Parker QC said Day’s actions were “obsessive”.

Day, of no fixed address, was sentenced to 14 months in jail for all four charges.

A restraining order without limitations was also granted.
