A WIDNES pub has re-opened after a six-figure makeover.

The Observatory on Queensbury Way, Upton Rocks has undergone a complete refurbishment.

Widnes Viking players teamed up with Halton councillors Bill Woolfall and Sandra Baker to officially launch the new look pub.

The bar area has been re-designed with contemporary tiling and a modern finish.

The sports viewing has also been overhauled with high quality sound systems from multiple screens throughout the pub.

General manager Eric Howe said: “We had a fantastic opening event and our neighbours really came out to support us.

“Our guests are at the heart of what we do so it was great to be able to mark the reopening with the local community.

“It was a pleasure to have players from Widnes Vikings Rugby League Football Club and councillors Bill Woolfall and Sandra Baker join us for the special occasion.

“We’ve already had great feedback on the revamped bar and sports viewing and we look forward to welcoming loyal and new guests over the coming months.”

Cllr Woolfall said: “The Observatory is an important part of the Widnes community so it is great to see that it’s back open, complete with a brand new look and feel.”

The Hungry Horse venue has an improved drinks range with additional cask ales.

The beer garden has also been extended with extra seating, heating and new outdoor lighting.
