AN APPEAL has been launched after staff at a supermarket were subjected to racial abuse and were assaulted in the early hours of a morning.

Police are looking to speak to the two people in this CCTV image after supermarket workers were assaulted in a racially aggravated incident in Chineham, near Basingstoke.

It took place sometime between 2am and 3am on Tuesday, August 22, at the Tesco supermarket in the Chineham Shopping Centre.

A man and a woman entered the store, took a bottle of vodka worth £38, and attempted to leave without paying.

A security guard and two members of staff approached the man and woman as they left the store. The man, and another man who had joined them, then racially abused and assaulted the two members of staff.

All three people then left the scene.

The members of staff sustained bruising in the assault but were not seriously injured.

Police say they have followed a number of lines of enquiry and are now in a position to release a CCTV still image of a man and woman they would like to speak to about this incident.

Anyone who knows the two people in the image, or who has any information about what took place, should call 101, quoting 44170324293.

Alternatively, people can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, where information can be left anonymously.
