A SOUTHAMPTON pub is closing for a major revamp.

The Fleming Arms in Wide Lane in Swaythling is set to get an extensive facelift worth at least £100,000 creating four new jobs in the process.

The pub will close its doors on Monday, September 18 and will undergo a makeover that will centre around an improved bar area.

Contemporary tiling will be to produce a modern finish while the sports viewing area will be enhanced with high-quality sounds systems from multiple screens throughout the pub.

The Fleming Arms, previously a Beefeater restaurant dates back to the 1850s when it was one of three public houses named the Fleming Arms on the Stoneham Estate with the others at Romsey and Binstead.

Greene King, the pub’s operators are also introducing a new food and drinks menu.

This will include buy one get one free burgers on a Friday, curry and a drink for £5 on Wednesdays and add a drink to any burger for £1 Monday to Friday.

The pub’s general manager, Martina Micicova, said: “The Fleming Arms is at the heart of the local community, so we want to provide our guests with even better surroundings to enjoy great food, drink and sporting events.”

The pub will reopen on Wednesday, October 4.
