IT’S the image that has been seen in stores across the UK.

Taken by a Daily Echo Camera Club member, the photo of a tiny harvest mouse perched atop a dandelion is now a national award winning one.

Hayley Whalvin has bagged £3,000 worth of Sony kit after beating more than 1,000 other photographers to the title of the Jessops Share Your Summer competition.

Hayley’s photo was chosen in a shortlist in June and displayed across more than 50 Jessops stores in the UK, but she has now been crowned the overall winner of the competition looking for the most creative shots.

The image has already been seen by Daily Echo readers as we featured the photo in our daily Caught on Camera feature.

On Friday, Hayley’s photo was chosen as the winner at a ceremony at Somerset House in London by the Jessops and Sony panel, which was chaired by photographer and Sony Ambassador Robert Pugh.

Hayley, 43, from Southampton, said: “I feel proud and humbled to have won, especially when I saw the other images that made up the final ten at the Share Your Summer party.

“I recently discovered a harvest mouse photography workshop and thought, why not get up close to nature myself and be creative with my camera here.”

The competition launched in June for its second year in search of the ten most creative summer shots.

Sony Ambassador Robert Pugh said: “Hayley’s winning image of the mouse just keeps pulling me in, making me glaze over and ponder how it was taken. The complexity of the image made it really stand out.

“The image itself is very pleasing to the eye and I could see that hanging in my own front room in a frame.

“For me, it was the winner and I knew they would put the Sony equipment to good use in their photography.”

Tanya Murray, marketing manager of Jessops said: “It is clear that the nation’s passion for photography is ever-present with people posting photos daily on social media.”
