A BUSINESS park with hundreds of staff is set to be cut off from public transport links after a bus company announced plans to scrap one of its routes.

Adanac Park, home of the Ordnance Survey, will lose out when First Southampton pulls its One service connecting it to the city centre in October.

The park employs approximately 700 OS employees as well as Holiday Inn staff.

General manager of First Southampton, Simon Goff, said the decision was a “last resort”.

However, he added that the service was underused and said the company needed to make “tough choices”.

He said: “While some passengers will be without a nearby service, many will still be able to complete their normal journeys by making a small change to their travel plans.”

First’s announcement has sparked upset from users, councillors and civic chiefs.

One user of the service, who arrived by bus at Adanac Park on Wednesday morning, said it was a “disappointment” that the service was set to end on October 29.

Southampton City Council cabinet member for transport and environment, councillor Jacqui Rayment, who said: “It’s always disappointing when a bus company pulls a route.

“The council wants people to use public transport rather than their cars.”

Lower Brownhill Road and Olive Road, in Coxford, will also lose their First bus service.

Residents will have to make a five-minute walk to the nearest First bus stop at Aldermoor Road, where they can pick up the 12 or Bluestar 17.

Keith Morrell, ward councillor, said: “I suspect there are quite a few people that are dependent on this service.

“There are a number of residents on that road who have mobility issues.

“I’m disappointed that First has decided to withdraw the service.”

First say the decision to withdraw Service One is part of a package of changes that will improve its service in Southampton.

It plans to merge routes two and 10 to create a service spanning the city called the City Red Two.

Other changes include a revised Saturday timetable for Services Three and 11. Meanwhile, Service Six will be diverted away from Ocean Village to provide a “more reliable service”.

Two additional evening journeys will be trialled for Service Nine, between the city centre and Sholing, and Service 13, to Harefield.
