A TEENAGER was rushed to hospital after she plunged from a railway bridge.

Police say the 17-year-old woman fell from a footbridge near Archer's Road, Eastleigh, at 2.55pm on Monday.

British Transport Police attended the scene, alongside paramedics.

South Central Ambulance Service sent a rapid response vehicle, an air ambulance car, an ambulance and a hazardous area response team to the scene.

An ambulance officer was also called to assist.

Paramedics treated the teenager, who is believed to have suffered a back injury following the five metre fall.

A spokesperson confirmed that she did not fall on the railway line and said that her injuries are not being treated as "life threatening".

British Transport Police say at this early stage that there is no suggestion that the teenager was pushed.

Trains between Eastleigh and Romsey, via Chandlers Ford, were stopped while emergency services dealt with the incident.

South Western Railway say all lines are now open again.

However the train company say some services may have to be altered or revised at short notice to reduce delays.

Thirty minute delays are also expected in the area.

Disruption is expected to last until 5pm tonight.
