PLANS for more than 1,000 new homes, community facilities and a new school in Hampshire have been unveiled.

Planning bosses are working on proposals for a new residential development on Uplands Farm Estate, which consists of a site west of Woodhouse Lane in Hedge End and one north of Winchester Street in Botley.

The sites are owned by Hampshire County Council but have been identified for future housing development in Eastleigh Borough Council’s emerging Local Plan.

Cllr Roy Perry, leader of Hampshire County Council, said: “The county council is responding directly to a request from Eastleigh Borough Council for us to bring forward these sites as part of their Local Plan review.

“As the landowner, we are committed to creating a sustainable community which will reflect the great character of Hampshire as a place to live, work and thrive.”

Residents are being urged to help shape the proposals at public consultations set to be held next week.

As part of the development, the site north of Winchester Street in Botley, could see 375 new homes, a public open space, allotments and access roads.

Meanwhile, 650 new homes could be built at the site west of Woodhouse Lane in Hedge End, along with a local centre with buildings of up to 1,000 square metres, a public open space, including land for sports pitches and new access roads.

Residents will also be asked their views on plans for a secondary school at the Woodhouse Lane site. The proposal includes a main school building, a sports hall, grass sports pitches and a multi-use games area which could be used by the community outside school hours.

The secondary school at Woodhouse Lane is one of the options planning chiefs and education bosses are exploring to meet the needs of the new development.

Cllr Peter Edgar, Hampshire County Council’s executive member for education, said: “We are working alongside Wildern Academy and the DfE to look at either an all-through school at Chalcroft Farm, Horton Heath, or a primary school at Chalcroft Farm and a secondary school at Woodhouse Lane.”

Consultations will take place at the Botley Centre on September 22, from 2pm to 8pm and at the Hedge End 2000 Centre on September 23 from 10am to 4 pm.

The consultation will also be held online from September 22 to October 20. A planning application could be lodged by the spring.
