As last orders were taking place, a punch was thrown between customers before staff tried to separate them in the early hours of September 14.

Police have launched an investigation after the 17-year-old from Eastleigh and a 37-year-old were both assaulted.

Wetherspoon spokesman Eddie Gershon said: “The police arrived and took witness statements from those left in the pub. We wish the gentleman a speedy recovery and we will assist the police in any way we can.”

A spokesman also added that the pub is ‘extremely well run’ and that incidents such as these ‘are very rare’.

One person who witnessed the attack said: “His injuries were so gruesome, I can’t believe what they looked like. He can’t see properly out of his eye now.”
