TEST Valley Borough Council (TVBC) has been named the most business-friendly council in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight for the second year running.

Neil Eames, Federation of Small Businesses Development Manager for Wessex, presented the best overall small business-friendly council award to leader of the council, councillor Phil North, at a ceremony at Bartley Lodge Hotel, Cadnam, on Tuesday, 5 September.

It is the sixth time in nine years TVBC has taken the award.

Councillor North said; “I’m delighted that the Federation of Small Businesses has recognised our hard work again this year. As a council we are committed to supporting the local economy and our priority is to try and help new and small businesses. This support is now part of our DNA.

“We have skills training funds in place for Andover, Chilworth, Nursling and Rownhams, and connect business with education through such things as sponsorship of careers events for schools. There are various grants available to new business owners and we also offer ongoing support such as networking events and business fair opportunities.

"I would encourage anyone who is considering setting up a business in Test Valley to get in touch with the council to find out more about how we can help.”

Mr Eames said: “We are delighted to yet again acknowledge Test Valley Borough Council for its ongoing commitment to providing support for small businesses to prosper and grow. The council has shown, over many years, a clear commitment to providing a range of initiatives that help small businesses realise their full potential and we are delighted to acknowledge this significant commitment.

"Our awards aim to publicly recognise the important work undertaken by local authorities, in supporting the micro and small business community. it is very encouraging to see such great efforts from local councils and we hope that the awards provide a platform for councils to share their successes in promoting and championing local economic development."
