MORE than 180 entries into the St James’ Park dog show made this year’s the “best ever”.
And the event at the Shirley green space was more than just a chance to show off beloved pooches.
It was also a fundraiser for Friends of St James’ Park – who run the on site café as well as a wide range of community activities – and the West Country Bullie Walks, a charity that looks after abused and abandoned bull terrier breeds.
Organiser Cindy Phillips said: “I’m a friend of the park and I take walks for the Bullie charity – so this event is very close to my heart. They’re a lovely, stubborn, bonkers breed – and a lot of people don’t realise what they’re getting so they can’t handle them. But once you learn to love any bull terrier you’ll be with them for life.”
Members of Southampton Cargo Bike were also on hand to give advice about how to get around the city. Campaigner Lyn Brayshaw said: “They’re a great way to get the shopping or drop off the kids – you just have to choose your route and avoid busy roads.”
