HAMPSHIRE police is offering advice on how to deal with “sextortion”.
The cyber-enabled crime involves victims being lured into performing sexual acts in front of web-cam.
The footage is then recorded, unbeknown to the victim, and then used in an attempt to blackmail individuals.
Offenders often threaten to upload the recordings to the internet, send the footage to the victim’s family and friends if demands for money are not met.
Now police have issued a self-help guide and a film highlighting how sextortion can take place.
They urge victims to not delete any correspondence, to not pay up, and to cut off any communication with the offender.
They are urged to deactivate their accounts and to report online indecent images to the host website.
