A HUNT has been launched for a 'handgun-wielding' robber who demanded money from a 23-year-old on Southampton Common.
The victim was walking through the Common close to The Avenue and Highfield Lane on Monday night when a man approached him with what was described as a handgun, and began demanding money.
After handing over his wallet and phone, the man fled and escaped uninjured after the incident, which happened at about 7.30pm.
Police are asking the public for help in tracking the armed robber, who is described as white, between 20 and 25 years old with short, straight blond hair and around six feet tall.
He is of a slim build, with his face covered with a shirt or scarf at the time, wearing a red-hooded style jacket.
Detective Constable Paul Beasley said: “This was a really frightening experience for the victim who was put in genuine fear when he was confronted and threatened by this man.
“We have increased patrols in the area to reassure residents and I would like to advice people to be alert but not alarmed.
“I am appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this incident or who saw a man matching this description in the Southampton Common area.”
Anyone with information is asked to call 101 quoting 44170372555.
