KETTLES were boiled and cakes baked across Hampshire for the a very special cause

The World's Biggest Coffee Morning saw expert and novice bakers get together in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

From solicitors' offices to church groups, tea and coffee were flowing in a bid to raise as much cash as possible for one of the nation's best loved charities.

Starting in 1990, thousands has been raised locally and over £165million for Macmillan nationally.

Churchill Retirement Living had a 'bake-off' competition with fun and games, a cake sale and raffle, as well as a special lunchtime hog roast provided by the company's in house team - with the company aiming to raise a total of £35,000 for Macmillan this year.

David Vane and Emma Morrissey were showing off their artwork as part of their Stella Maris centre event, and children and teachers at Sholing Technology College raised £1,000 from the sale of cakes in memory of colleague Elizabeth Wright.

The Spitfire Sisters entertained coffee and cake lovers at Winchester's Guildhall.

And staff at the Daily Echo also took part, with Alice Rose and Trent Watkins going all out to bring in the best cakes and sweets they could.

Alice said: "It's a charity that's very close to home - and so many people have lost someone to cancer. That's why we wanted to do it."
