THE family of a young man who died in a motorcycle crash on the A31 on Friday have paid tribute to him.

David Pilbro, 17, died at the scene of the collision with a white Ford Transit panel van near Merley at around 12.50pm.

Flowers have been left at the scene, and a ‘ride’ is planned for next week so friends and fellow biking enthusiasts can pay their respects.

On behalf of the family, David's father Sean said: “David was in the happiest part of his life. His loss will be with us forever.

“There are no words to express how we feel as a family. For sister Jade, grandparents John and Elizabeth, Chris and Nicky and girlfriend Amy and her family it's especially difficult.

“We have received an incredible amount of support and messages, which show how many people cared about David. We miss him and love him and he will be in our hearts forever.

“We believe a number of people at the scene tried everything they could to help him. We thank you for everything – the marine, the E-zec staff and the nurse. Please respect our privacy and dignity at this difficult time.”

On Facebook, members of the Bournemouth and Poole Bikers group expressed shock at the news. Some had recognised David’s orange and black Hyosung motorcycle.

April Rose Langton said: “This was a very young man with no fear and an overwhelming love and dedications to motorbikes.

“A warm and funny young man who’s life was stolen from our community and we have all been silenced by this news.”

Sylwo Sylwo said: “He was a great positive young lad, R.I.P. So sad news.”

Carrie Gregory said: “R.i.p David. What a shock this is. Ride high in the clouds my friend.”

Chris Hayward said: “Met him on charity runs.real nice friendly guy sad sad loss.”

And Kevin Kerley posted: “So young so sad. Thoughts to your family brother. R I P ride free.”

A tribute ride is currently planned for next Friday, with those taking part planning to lay flowers at the crash scene.

David is the ninth motorcyclist to be killed on Dorset’s roads in the past 12 months, with nearly 20 being involved in serious crashes over the same time period.

The driver of the van, a 48-year-old man from Southampton, was uninjured in the collision. The van belonged to High Wycombe company Antac Support Services.

Dorset Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Team is appealing for witnesses to the manner of driving of both vehicles to get in touch so the circumstances of the crash can be brought to light.
