SAXOPHONIST Dave O’Higgins is one of the the most prolific contemporary jazz musicians in the UK, with 19 albums released as leader since 1993. Much of the material has been original compositions and arrangements, with line-ups from small group to big band, acoustic and electric.

The 2017 tour of the Dave O'Higgins Quartet, which is at Southampton Jazz Club on Tuesday, is the biggest tour undertaken by a sax-led group this millennium, running at 34 dates.

Having studied music at The City University in London, Dave’s first big breaks were with John Dankworth and Cleo Laine, and Icelandic jazz-funk band, Mezzoforte.

As well as the solo projects, he is a busy guest soloist across the globe, runs a small jazz recording studio, and teaches at the London College of Creative Media.

The latest tour is promoting a new CD, It’s Always 9.30 in Zog.

The most impressive names on the CV are Frank Sinatra and Ray Charles. Other regular bands include Jamie Cullum, Kyle Eastwood, BBC Big Band and Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Orchestra.

Southampton Jazz Club takes over The Talking Heads.
