WHILE wishing General Electric well for their plans for a design and development hub for renewable technology on the former Vosper Thornycroft site, it’s worth remembering wind is a fluctuating stream of low-density energy.
Mankind stopped using it for mission-critical transport and mechanical power long ago, for sound reasons. It’s just not very good.
To the nearest whole number, what percentage of the world’s energy consumption was supplied by wind power in 2014, the last year for which there are reliable figures?
Was it 20 per cent, ten per cent or five per cent?
Answer: None of the above – it was 0.46 per cent. That is to say, to the nearest whole number, there is still no wind power on Earth.
