PLANS to build hundreds of new homes in a Hampshire town could be given the go-ahead this week.

The next phase of a major development at a site south of Chestnut Avenue and west of Stoneham Lane in Eastleigh could be granted permission tomorrow.

As previously reported by the Daily Echo, the site is earmarked for 1,100 new homes plus a primary school, children’s pre-school nursery, community building, care home, retail and office buildings and car parking.

The first phase of the development includes 560 homes, a large open space in the centre of the site with two children’s play areas and a number of smaller open spaces.

It was approved by the Eastleigh Local Area Committee in May 2017.

Now councillors and planning chiefs are to discuss plans for the next phase of the scheme which include 571 new homes, car parking and new public open spaces.

Paul Bicknell, councillor for Eastleigh South ward, said: "It's a good development if planning permission is granted.

"It's good for those people waiting for homes because there will be 35 per cent affordable homes and the public open spaces through the development would look good."

The new homes will be a mix of one, two, three and four-bedrooms.
Highwood Land LLP is the developer behind the project and has been working in partnership with Vivid Housing Ltd.

Simon Beech, land and sales director at Highwood Land LLP, said: "We are delighted to have submitted detailed planning for the next exciting stage of the North Stoneham Park development, which includes 35 per cent affordable housing."

Mr Beech added that if the plans are granted permission, the work for the second stage of the development could start in May 2018.

As previously reported by the Daily Echo, education bosses are also drawing up proposals for the primary school that could be built at the site.

The school will be funded by the borough council which will get the money back from the developers later in the process.

A new link road is also set to be created and run between Chestnut Avenue and Stoneham Lane.
