THE FUTURE of a Southampton pub remains hanging in the balance.

Patrons at The Stile pub in Burgess Road were given just ten days to finish up after Greene King decided not to renew their lease at the watering hole.

Sitting on the campus of the University of Southampton, a campaign has been launched to save the building as the university says options are still being weighed up, around a month after closing.

A spokesperson for the University of Southampton said: "The situation is still the same regarding The Stile with all options still being considered.

"The building is currently empty."

The university, who owns the building, said that no timescale had been put on the pub for its future.

Previously, they have said that there were no plans to knock down the building.

A campaign has also been launched in the community to save the pub building, with its future remaining in the balance.

Residents have grown concerned as the pub is the third and final around the Highfield area to close following the Gate and the Crown and Sceptre pubs several years ago.
