As we get further into autumn, and the summer becomes a distant memory, the Daily Echo takes a look into when masses enjoyed the sun in Southampton’s parks.

The pictures on these pages were originally printed on August 22, 1967, under the headline “Sunshine in the parks” and are a glimpse into how we used to make the most of the good weather.

A couple of the photos show children coming down the slides, while another shows them climbing a tree with steps built in to aid with their ascent.

One picture shows Carl Douglas at the age of 18 months enjoying a cold drink from a bottle – the perfect way to cool down in the summer sunshine.

Mothers and their children can be seen taking time off, enjoying time out on the grass of the parks.
