HIDDEN away in a dark recess within the Daily Echo’s archive was a dusty folder containing 35mm negatives from a fashion show in 1971.

A search through the newspapers of the time, failed to turn up when they were published, so this may be the first time the public have seen them.

The event took place on October 1 in Romsey and was held by Smith and Bradbeer.

The images show models strutting their stuff on the catwalk, and striking poses in a selection of outfits indicative of the time.

Most garments packed migraine-inducing patterns, while some were entire outfits of corduroy.

There were woollen pom-pom hats, fur-trim coats, and polka-dot neck scarves.

It was clearly a very 1970s affair.
