Eastleigh displayed some of the quality rugby they are capable of against KCS Old Boys - but still lost their fifth league game on the bounce.

They were beaten 20-13 at home, but did earn a losing bonus point from the London 2 South-West clash.

Eastleigh started brightly in the blustery conditions and went ahead with an early penalty.

Strong defending from both sides cancelled out attacks in the evenly-balanced contest until KCS broke through just before half time for a 5-3 lead.

The visitors also dominated the opening stages of the second half, scoring another two tries, a conversion and penalty.

Eastleigh gathered themselves knowing what was needed to salvage the game and strong running from Connor Frain and John Williams set the platform for the backs to make yards downfield.

The home side went close from a cross field kick before another attack that was more successful – Connor Frain crashing over the line and Phil Baldwin adding the extras.

Time was against Eastleigh but they did earn a point with the last kick of the contest – a penalty from the trusty boot of Baldwin.

Eastleigh’s Man of the match was Ricky Gormley.

Mid-table Gosport & Fareham picked up their third win of the season with a 23-19 home victory over Farnham with tries from centre Dom Holling, hooker Sean Shepherd and Kieran Darrington. Alex Duncombe kicked a couple of penalties and a conversion.

Andover are just a place below Gos on points’ difference following a 27-25 victory at bottom club Effingham & Leatherhead.
