A WOMAN who was "out of control" after drinking a vodka in a park assaulted her disabled stepdad on his birthday.

Manuel Goulart sustained a swollen eye when Carla Barradas came back from a drinking session in a local park to celebrate her birthday.

After sinking a litre bottle of vodka with her brother, Barradas, 31, attacked Mr Goulart - leaving the wheelchair bound man with a swollen eye on September 19.

Prosecuting, Daniel O'Neill told Southampton Magistrates' Court: "Barradas became abusive toward him and he says he was then struck multiple times to the head with hard force.

"Police were called and it appears she admits to having lost control."

He added: "It was a repeated attack. It has been aggravated by the fact he is a vulnerable man who uses a wheelchair."

A probation report compiled on Barradas said she was "about nine out of ten drunk" when she got back from her drinking session.

It said: "She returned home and her stepfather had also been drinking.

"He started calling her names and along with her daughter, she went upstairs but he carried on shouting."

The report added that Barradas has known the victim for 24 years.

The court heard that Barradas left the UK after developing a drug problem and returned to Portugal before coming back to England two years ago.

Barradas, of Mansel Road East, Southampton pleaded guilty to assault.

She was sentenced to a 12 month community order, which includes as punishment the requirement to carry out 60 hours of unpaid work.

She was also ordered to pay an £85 victim surcharge.
