COMMUTERS face an even bigger fight for car-parking spaces at Southampton Central station from next week.

The station's London bound car park, off Blechynden Terrace, will partially close for a fortnight from Monday, October 30.

South Western Railway say the closure is to allow Southampton City Council to carry out maintenance work on a wall, running along the north-edge of the car-park.

According to the council, the outer skin of the 'pre-war structure' is leaning out into the car park and needs dismantling and rebuilding.

A spokesperson for SWR said: "Southampton City Council will be carrying out works on a wall within the London bound car park at Southampton Central.

"This will commence from 30 October and will result in the partial closure of the car park for approximately two weeks.

"This will impact our customers who use this car park, as capacity will be decreased throughout the works.

"There are various car parks in the local area, but please note that your South Western Railway car parking ticket will not be valid at these car parks."

"We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause."
