Charlie Austin is touch and go to be fit to face Burnley next week after being kept out of the draw at Brighton with a knee injury.

Austin was set to be on the bench at the Amex but suffered the injury in training before the game and was forced to miss out.

Mauricio Pellegrino opted to leave Shane Long among the subs rather than risk starting with both of his remaining strikers.

He is optimistic that it won’t be a long lay-off for Austin, who it seems should be fit after the international break if he doesn’t quite recover in time to face the Clarets.

Pellegrino reported: “It was a situation that he suffers a little bit in his knee before today.

“Now he couldn’t be available to be on the bench.

“The doctor told me maybe next week he will be ready.”
