A DRIVER who crashed into a telegraph pole, causing another man life-changing injuries, has been jailed for drug driving.

Ojutalayo Kola-Adejumo was sentenced to four months in prison after pleading guilty to three driving offences at Southampton Magistrates’ Court.

The 21-year-old was found to have Delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the active ingredient in cannabis, when he crashed on Wide Lane, Eastleigh on May 18.

He was driving a silver Vauxhall Astra around 9.45pm when he crashed into a stationary car before hitting a telegraph pole, opposite the former Ford factory.

Kola-Adejurno and another man were subsequently arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and attempted kidnapping charges, after a 23-year-old passenger suffered ‘life-changing’ injuries in the crash.

However, Kola-Adejurno was instead charged with driving under influence of drugs, to which he pleaded guilty.

He was found to have 5.1 micrograms per litre of blood in his system at the time of the crash.

Kola-Adejumo, of Woolwich, London, also pleaded guilty to driving without a licence and without insurance.

on Wednesday, magistrates opted to jail him due to his drug use and the serious nature of the injuries caused to his passenger.

They also noted that one of the car’s airbags had been glued down prior to the crash.

Kola-Adejumo was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £115 and court costs of £85.
