TALENTED teen Jordan Matthews was on target for Bemerton Harlequins once again tonight.
After netting a hat-trick in Saturday’s 5-0 win at Petersfield, the 18-year-old opened the scoring against Shaftesbury at Western Way.
The visitors hit back for a 1-1 Sydenhams Premier Division draw, but it was enough to extend Bemmy’s unbeaten league and cup run to five games – signs that things are on the up after a slow start to the season.
Speaking after the Petersfield win, Bemerton boss Rae Hughes said: “The average age today was 21, made up mostly of local players. We are far from the finished article, but we are heading in the right direction.”
Heavy rain played havoc with tonight’s non-League programme with AFC Totton’s BigFreeBet.com Challenge Cup tie against Weymouth one of many games to be postponed.
Weather permitting, there is a big match in store at Arlebury Park tomorrow (Wednesday, 7.45pm) when Alresford Town entertain Sydenhams Premier leaders Andover.
Victory for Andover would extend their lead to 11 points.
